About us:
My goal with this site is to promote species conservation through captive breeding by hobbyists.
You may be wondering about the name Conserfariam. The name is the species name of the extinct in the wild roach simandoa conserfariam which is Latin for conserve in many places. The species was found by a scientist in a cave in the wild that was later destroyed by mining and they now only survive in captivity.
For many species in the hobby the number of animals in captivity far out weigh their counterparts in nature. Its my hope to ensure these animals get to continue on and that the number of species the hobby saves only continues to grow.
As part of that goal I spent sometime thinking about my experiences and the hobby as a whole and there were many issues I wanted to address. First of all the different groups were spread out and I wanted a place where I could easily find information all in one place. Then there were the sites to sell again all spread out. There needed to be an all in one solution where the various plant and animal hobbyist could learn from and be inspired by the work the others were doing.
This site may have just stayed a dream. That is until a few years ago when a friend had their Facebook group shut down. Facebook was cracking down on legal animal sales after peta invested heavily in them. I built a quick easy site for my friend to carry on and decided that I needed to build a site for the hobby at large. With no experience building modern sites, limited funds, a full time job, and 2 tiny children. It took about 2 years but the beta site has arrived. :)
